- Since you are using WinFaxPro 4.0 I assume you are using Windows 95.

- Have you tried sending ATI3 command from WinComm?
- Have you checked in Control Panel, System.Modem
- if your USR Vi is installed and works well?

- Are you sure no other comm software is already loaded ?

- Your modem may be using a Com port address or IRQ
- that is already used by another peripheral.
